Changes to Lake Macquarie Housing

Thursday 20 February 2025
Lake Macquarie City Council’s housing diversity planning proposal outlines changes to allow a broader range of housing types across the city. Under the proposal, dual occupancies would be allowed in R3 medium density residential zones, while terraces, townhouses and small apartment buildings would be allowed in R2 low density residential zones.
The proposal aims to ease the State’s housing crisis through increasing housing supply and diversity throughout the Lake Macquarie LGA. At its Standing Committee meeting on 2 December 2024, Council decided to hold a Councillor workshop, prior to considering this planning proposal at a future Council meeting in early 2025. This is great news for those who already own or are interested in purchasing residential land in the Lake Macquarie LGA for the purposes of a medium density housing development, as it increases the housing options which can be pursued.
Our Town Planning Team will keep abreast of Council’s progress on this matter and advise when the new planning controls come into force. We look forward to working with you to identify new housing opportunities and obtain approval for your development. Please contact us on (02) 4969 6995 or email planning@parkerscanlon.com.au
